Gobble gobble! ("Hello" in Turkey speak)
This last week has been AWESOME!
On Tuesday, we had interviews with President and Sister Cooke, which
went super well. Sister Cooke told me that because of how I did at
"Why I Believe" that she is definitely going to have me sing again in
the future! Which I am super excited for! As I've undoubtedly said
before, I'm so grateful for the opportunities Heavenly Father is
giving me to use the talents He has blessed me with to testify of Him!
(Also, expect to see President Cooke's name a lot throughout this
email...)
On Wednesday, I went on splits with Brother Phillips of the bishopric
to visit Lucie and Ismael and while there discovered that Lucie has
apparently had full custody over Ismael all along so we actually don't
need the father's permission for him to get baptized! Long story
short, Ismael will (hopefully) be getting baptized on December 20!
Thanksgiving for us was a non-proselyting day so therefore was spent
chilling at our apartment until we got a call from Lucie telling us
that she made us lunch and wanted us to take some to Brother Phillips
as a "thank you" for letting Ismael be baptized. So we ate lunch with
Lucie and Ismael while setting up some stuff for his baptism (we
formally put him on date then, etc.) and getting to know them better
in general. Apparently they've been meeting with missionaries for
about three or four years!
After that, we dropped off the food at the Phillips' house and chatted
with them for a bit (their children all love missionaries so they made
us Happy Thanksgiving cards and gave us candy). For Thanksgiving
dinner, we went to a family by the name of Gibbs. Fun story involving
that meal: the Gibbs have a son who is in the singles ward so they
volunteered to feed some of the sister missionaries in that Ward along
with us. The only problem being that in our mission, Elders and
Sisters aren't allowed to go to the same meal appointments, so to
solve this, the Sisters went over there first and helped them cook the
meal and ate with them, then once they left, we came and ate whatever
food was left (which was a lot). Needless to say, our Thanksgiving was
pretty interesting, though very good nonetheless!
On Friday, President Cooke came on exchanges with us and since our
appointment fell through, we went with him to see Lucie and Ismael
just to make sure we were good to baptize Ismael (and we are). While
there, we taught Ismael about the responsibilities of a deacon and the
Aaronic Priesthood (since he is 13), which was pretty cool.
Afterwards, President complimented us for being the youngest
companionship in the mission and pretty much told us that Laurel is
going to have one set of Elders for a while.
On Saturday, the AP's (Assistants to the President) called Elder
Carroll and I and asked us if they could go on an out-of-the-blue
exchange with us. I went with Elder Ord (from California) over the the
AP's area in Rockville and Elder Herring (from Gilbert, AZ) stayed
with Elder Carroll in Laurel. For our exchange, Elder Ord and I also
took a member from their Ward around with us, a brother Fa’amuli, who
actually just got back from a mission to the Gilbert, Arizona area! It
was a ton of fun! We checked on some people on the ward's "unknown"
list and went contacting at a metro station (which I'd never done
before, it was fun but a difference experience) and helped a lady from
Baltimore find her way around town (she actually agreed to be taught
by the missionaries in the Baltimore mission too!). Overall, a super
fun night!
Yesterday, President and Sister Cooke actually came and spoke in
sacrament meeting! (As I said, I saw President a LOT this week!) They
both gave amazing talks!
Well that's about all for this week! December is almost here! (These
months go by way too fast!) I love you all! Have a fantastic week!
Sincerely,
Elder Sam Williams
