With that not-so-subtle foreshadowing in mind, on to my week!
Tuesday and Wednesday basically consisted of Elder Cowan and I trying
to get in contact with all of our investigators/potentials, which
worked to varying degrees. On the plus side, we were able to schedule
quite a few appointments for this coming week! Much of the rest of the
time was spent helping Elder Cowan get familiarized with the area.
On Thursday, all heck broke loose! It started off as a pretty regular
Thursday, going into the final zone-district meeting (the area seventy
nixed them from here on out), which was about change and cleansing the
inner vessel. All of the workshops were great and it ended up being
one of the more spiritual meetings I've had while out here! Near the
end of the meeting, we suddenly got a phone call from the Assistants
asking us if we were home and if not, to get home as soon as possible
and call them ASAP. After the meeting was over, we hippity-hopped on
home and called them back. Upon doing so, they informed us that,
speaking of change, there was an emergency transfer taking place and
that I should pack my bags and be at the designated location by the
designated time to head on back down to WHITE PLAINS 2ND(!) and that I
would be whitewashing the area with Elder Flandro, one of the
Annapolis elders. Turns out, the elders here previously did something
not so smart and offended a bunch of Ward members, so they had to get
taken out and I got sent in since I know the area and left on pretty
good terms with the Ward with Elder Flandro since his life
experiences/hobbies allow him to relate with a LOT of the people out
here. And surprise, suprise, Flandro is from Utah, so the break in the
Utah streak was only momentary...
Friday, August 5th, 2016, marked one year since I entered into the MTC
and began my mission... Also known as HUMP DAY! It's crazy to think
that I have been out for a year already, but I'm excited to have this
next year to be able to continue to serve out here! The day was spent
with me trying to figure out what had happened in the area since I'd
been gone and trying not to drop the ball on any investigators or
members being worked with, which ended up working out pretty well,
thankfully!
Most of my time here thus far has been spent getting reacquainted with
the area and those living therein, which has been awesome! Church
yesterday was especially great because almost everyone who saw me did
a double take that I was back, which was quite amusing!
Overall, this has been a very different, but good, week! Now that I'm
back in the swing of things, Flandro is getting to know the Ward, and
with the Lord's guidance, this should be an amazing and productive
week! I love you all and hope you have a great week as well!
Sincerely,
Elder Sam Williams
