Dude's Feeling Drunk and High. . .

...and it's not on love and life, that's for sure. But more on that later!

Tuesday, we had a zone training where we watched a bunch of recap
videos from the worldwide missionary broadcast things. We also worked
on extending baptismal invitations using the Book of Mormon and the
Pamphlets. Afterwards, Elder Talbot went out to eat at Buffalo Wild
Wings to celebrate me "becoming a dead sister" ("hitting 18 months" in
normal people speak), which was pretty fun!

Wednesday after our Ward Correlation meeting, we stopped by Brother
Ayers, a less-active member that missionaries had been visiting with
in the past but hadn't been met with in a while, when we knocked on
the door, he let us in immediately and told us how he really missed
meeting with the missionaries and how the day previous, he had
realized that he needed to come back to church and get back into
reading the Book of Mormon again. We had an awesome meeting with him
and we're able to read and talk about the Book of Mormon a little bit
and he was very excited about it! I'm excited to be able to continue
visiting with him and hope to be able to see him progress forward back
to activity!

Much of the rest of the week was spent trying to contact
people/tracting/getting canceled on. Friday was especially rough as we
had about four or five appointments set and literally ALL of them
cancelled on us last minute or just weren't home even after we had
confirmed with them.

But Saturday definitely made up for that! We were able to have an
awesome meeting with Larry during which we were able to read Alma 36,
one of my personal favorite chapters in the entire Book of Mormon,
with him (in relation to a conversation we had about how God believes
in second chances and is able to take us and make us better) and he
LOVED it. It was one of the first times he'd really gotten into the
Book of Mormon (other than just reading a verse here and there) and he
was very impressed not only by it, but also by Alma and his story. To
the point that he said that he is going to now read up more in the
Book of Mormon on him and his teachings (since I'd mentioned that he
was one of the greatest prophets in the entire book (at least in my
opinion)). Hopefully that lesson and him acting on what he felt will
be a major turning point for him and his spiritual progression! I also
know that Talbot and I needed that meeting as much as he did because
the week up to that point had been pretty rough and that amazing visit
really help recharge our spiritual batteries!

After this meeting is when things get a little weird. After visiting
Larry, we went out with our renewed spiritual high to contact a
less-active member that we had been trying to get in touch with all
transfer with no success. While en route, we were stopped by a
homeless guy who saw us and yelled "Hey Mormons, come over here"
(which always means that something interesting is about to happen). So
we went over and talked to him. I honestly can't remember the guy's
name because he said it once or twice and he had a bit of a hard time
pronouncing his name on account of the fact that he was STONED (and
probably drunk) OUT OF HIS MIND! He basically came up to us and
started rambling about how we can help people not be homeless and help
kids succeed and about how great of presidents Obama and Clinton
apparently were. Meanwhile the dude was practically foaming at the
mouth and kept stepping closer and closer to us, not maliciously, just
in a "I have no idea what's going on right now... personal space?
What's that?" sort of way. During the conversation, one of his friends
came up to us and asked us for a bible (which we gave her along with a
copy of the Book of Mormon and three of the Pamphlets) and she then
went over to a bench and started staring at the front of the pamphlets
and letting out a very loud laugh every couple of seconds (which was
kinda creepy, not gonna lie). After about 30ish minute of talking to
this guy, we left him with a Copy of the Book of Mormon and some
Pamphlets. He then told us to see him next Saturday if we are in the
neighborhood. We will see if that ends up happening. Good times...

That there was the gist of my week! I love you all! Have a great week
and a great Valentine's Day (or a great Single's Awareness Day to
myself and all of my single brethren and sisteren)!

Sincerely,
Elder Sam Williams
