Howdy y'all!
Sorry about the late email, it's been a rather crazy day and this is the first opportunity I've had to write/type.
It's P-day once again so time for another email from your's truly. I
just realized that I've almost been our for a month. That's crazy! It
definitely hasn't felt like a month... Oh well.
Today, my roommates and I celebrated the last P-day of the month by
going tie shopping at every Ross, Burlington, Marshall's and thrift
shop in our area. I found some pretty nice ties. Though according to
Elder Archibald, today has been pretty lame as far as tie selection
goes... Better luck next month, I guess.
Starting where I left off last week, on Tuesday, Elder Perkins of the
Seventy visited the mission for a mission tour. It was a super cool
experience and he gave some really good insight on how to be a better
teacher. I had the privilege of sitting by him at lunch and he is such
a great man. The tour was yet another confirmation to me that General
Authorities truly are called of God. I also learned a lot. Chief among the things I learned is that I have a LOT more to learn.
After that, Elder Hill and I did some tracting and visiting
less-actives. We then felt inspired to visit one of our investigators
who was a few blocks away from the area we were tracting in. When we
got there, her husband (a member) answered the door and told us that
he had a feeling that we would show up that day. We taught them the
Gospel of Jesus Christ and as the Elders who had been in there area
before us challenged her to set a Baptism date, we set a date for the
end of September. She knows that the church is true and has felt the
spirit confirm to her that the message of the Gospel is true, she just
needs to get to church. Hopefully she follows through with that.
On Wednesday, we had "specialized training" where President and Sister
Cooke along with the AP's (Assistants to the President) taught us
about the rules and procedures specific to our mission as well as
about TIWI (this box that is in the car of every missionary that
basically makes sure we are driving safely. Basically the bane of any
hope of getting places quickly :P) and iPads (which we get at the next
specialized training at the end of the transfer).
On Saturday, we had a visit from the Travelling Trainers (which of course meant that when they arrived, we hid throughout the apartment and ambushed them with Nerf guns). After the short-lived ambush, we went on splits with them, then we went to help a family pack up and clean their apartment so they could move out. The wife was actually from Mesa and went to Mesa High and Red Mountain (She is April's age). It was fun playing the "let's see which families you know" game while helping them pack up.
Sundays are always awesome because it gives us the opportunity to take the sacrament, renew our covenants with God, and make use of the Atonement. As a missionary, it's pretty overwhelming how much you make use of the atonement in your every-day life. I have gained such an appreciation for Christ's sacrifice for us that I never really grasped the scope of before. And heck, I STILL have a lot to learn.
Laurel is a lovely place, it is pretty varied demographic-wise. People in Maryland really need to learn how to drive though... it can be quite stressful at times... oh well...
I love this Gospel so much and I continue to feel so strongly Heavenly Father's love for the people here. I know that this church is true and that I'm right where He wants me. I also know that DC North is the greatest mission in the history of life! for those who disagree, it's even the mission motto.
Until next week,
