Have Your Turkey (Bowl) and Eat it Too!

Happy belated Thanksgiving everyone!

And a joyous Thanksgiving it was indeed! But first, on Wednesday, all
of the missionaries in the stake got to go into DC to do service for
the Salvation Army! They were hosting a dinner/food drive/clothing
drive for some of the poor/homeless in DC, which we got to help out
with. I got to be an escort for people picking out coats and other
warm clothes for the winter. During it, I got to meet quite a few
really cool people and a few other very "interesting" people. It's
true what they say that it's never a boring day serving in DC. Though
it was a very good experience and I'm glad that I got to help out with
it!

Thanksgiving morning we played football with a bunch of the members in
our Ward, which was a ton of fun! After that, we went over to Ashley's
family's house for Thanksgiving dinner. After that, because we weren't
allowed to proselyte on Thanksgiving, it was a good way to help build
friendships with her family, and because we wanted to mess with Elder
Hunt, we went "Black Friday (on Thursday night) shopping with Ashley
and her family. I say "mess with Elder Hunt" because there were
probably more people in the stores we went to then there were in his
entire county back home and it was amusing to see his reaction to the
number of people and his newfound resolve to never go Black Friday
shopping ever again.

Most of the next day was spent with the Hale family helping them build
a wall around their chicken coop to keep out the cold of the winter,
it was a lot of fun and while there, we made plans to go over there to
have Christmas morning/breakfast with them if I'm still in the area
(which I hopefully/probably still will be.  On Tuesday, we had surprise
interviews with the mission president and he told me and Elder Hunt
that he is keeping us together in this area for one, maybe two, more
transfers! We will find out tonight if that is indeed the case!)
Dinner that night was also spent with Ashley's family for Thanksgiving
leftovers!

Saturday, I went on exchange with Elder Hirzel in my area! Which
consisted of a lot of driving down to this small island at the
southern tip of my area to visit some people that we don't have the
opportunity to visit very often (and of course getting a selfie while
there). It was also fun because Hirzel fell asleep on the way down and
didn't wake up until we got there, so he can now tell people that
while on his mission, he fell asleep and woke up on an island!

Sunday at church, we were in Sacrament meeting and Sister Hale (who is
the primary music person) passes me an iPad with a note asking if I
would be willing/able to learn a song last minute and sing it or the
Primary so they could hear how it goes, feel the Spirit that the song
brings, and be motivated to learn it for the Christmas program. Which
meant that I got to learn the song, "Sleep, Little Jesus" and sing it
while more or less sight-reading, which went really well actually and
ended up helping them learn it a lot (and made the whole primary
presidency cry, which is a plus). I am so very grateful for the gift
of music that my Heavenly Father has given to me and the opportunities
he's given me to develop it!

That night, we went to the Chamberlains, who are still doing very
well! Hopefully we can see Bryan's heart begin to soften again and
accept the message of the gospel or at least allow his sons to hear
the message!

I love you all! Have a fantasticly awesome week!

Sincerely,
Elder Sam Williams
