One Investigator Sandwich, Hold the Cheese!

Greetings everyone!

As we speak, there is a very major event in my life going on: it is
SNOWING! I know that's really not all that big of a deal, but for
someone who was born and raised in the desert, this is a big deal
(ESPECIALLY since I don't have to drive in it this time)!

Much of this week has been spent by Elder Talbot and I going through
our Area Book and attempting to contact all of the "potential
investigators" in our list. "Why is "potential investigators" in
quotes", you ask? Well that is because previous missionaries who were
in the area put literally almost everyone who even answered the door
in as a potential investigator. This means that our Area Book is full
of cheese (people that aren't really interested). This problem was
amplified by the fact that a lot of the background information on
these people contained such useful information as, "I don't remember
anything about this person" and "not sure if this person was a guy or
a girl or if this is really the person's name". So the week has been
spent stopping by as many of these people as we can trying to separate
the "wheat from the tares" so to speak. This far, we've gone through
probably 75-80% of the names and dropped 20 or so people who haven't
been interested or have moved. Good stuff...

The good news though, is that we have found some people who do appear
to be very promising. One of whom is Lolita, whom the missionaries
found a month or so ago that accepted the Book of Mormon and invited
them to come back. She welcomed us back in and we taught her the
Restoration, which she, for the most part, was very interested in and
accepting of. She even set up a time for us to stop by this coming
week and said that she'd come to church this week as well!

On Friday, we went on exchange with Elder King, the district leader.
He came to me in Capitol Hill and Talbot went with King's companion to
Anacostia. That day was spent continuing to de-cheese the Area Book,
with very few people actually interested. By very few, I mean exactly
two people, a husband and wife, who were the very last door that we
knocked that night! They welcomed us in and told us that while they
aren't very interested in converting at the moment, they are
incredibly interested in what we believe as a church. We weren't able
to teach them much then because they had some friends over (who were
also interested in hearing more) but they told us that they wanted us
to come back and would even have us over for dinner soon! So that's
pretty awesome as well! We also were able to visit with Larry, one of
our investigators and commit him to be baptized when he gets an answer
about if he church is God's church on the earth today, which I know he
will if he reads, ponders and prays with real intent!

The other major thing that happened this week is that the entire
mission gathered at the VC on Wednesday for a worldwide missionary
broadcast, which was very good! During it, they made adjustments to
our daily schedule in order to give us more time to get ready in the
mornings and more freedom with how to schedule studies and such in
order to best accommodate our areas! They also cut out a bunch of the
key indicators, which will hopefully help people be less
Numbers-hungry, but that has yet to be seen. Oh well...

That there is pretty much my week. I love you all and I hope you have
a fantastic week! This week brings interviews and Zone conferences for
me, so it should be interesting!

Sincerely,
Elder Sam Williams
